Danielle Colacci
Let’s welcome our neighbour, Danielle Colacci.
Hi, Danielle! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hello. My name is Danielle. I was born here in Pembroke, but didn’t stay long. I moved away when I was two and over the years, I lived in Ottawa, Brockville, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, Elliot Lake, Ottawa (again), London, and back to Pembroke in 2006.
After high school, I went to Carleton University, where I got a degree in Economics. I started working at a bank and was there for 12 years before I resigned, so I could stay at home with my kids.
My hubby, Bill, and I are high school sweethearts and have 3 kids. My son and daughter have just inched into adulthood and are figuring out life. My youngest son was stillborn but would have been 19 this year.
I am currently working at Meridian Credit Union as a Financial Sales Associate.
Have you ever named your car? If so, what names have you used?
I have named every car I have ever owned. My first car was “Old Gertie.” I now name my cars, but they also have to have a theme song. My last 2 cars have been “Black Betty” and “Lola.”
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
If I could go anywhere in the world, I would go to Italy again. It’s my favourite place in the world! There is so much history everywhere. I love that you can turn a corner and there is a courtyard with a fountain right in front of you.
I love the slower pace of life and how the people appreciate the small pleasures in life.
If you could start a whole new career path, what would you be?
If I could start a whole new career path, I would become a dog groomer. Getting to spend my days with the sweetest, most trusting souls seems like a career I would look forward to going to every day.
What strange food combination do you most enjoy?
It’s not exactly a food combination that’s weird, but my husband thinks I’m strange because I only drink tea. When he sees me drinking tea and eating potato chips, it grosses him out.
Have you ever been told you look like a famous person? Who was it? Do you agree?
In high school, I was at a party and a cute boy went up to my friend and told her I looked like Lois Lane (Teri Hatcher), then said, “At a time like this, a guy wishes he were Superman.” The rest is history — that cute boy is now my husband.
How many pairs of shoes do you own?
Not nearly enough!! My guess is that I have over 50 pairs of shoes. My favourite are Blowfish sneakers because they are very comfortable and have so many fun colours and patterns.
If you could be any animal, which one would you be? Why?
If I could be any animal, I would choose to be a Panda Bear. I love how roly-poly and clumsy they can be. I’m quite clumsy myself, so it seems logical that I could be a Panda.
What would be your trademark karaoke song?
My trademark karaoke song would be “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond. I love the message and how uplifting it is. It’s a song that gets a crowd to join in and unites them in happiness.
If you could have your very own personal assistant, what would you have them do?
If I had a personal assistant, I would have them cook for me. I hate cooking and trying to decide what to cook. They would have complete control over menu-planning and prep.
What do you miss the most about being a kid?
The thing I miss the most about being a kid is the lack of responsibility. Having parents taking care of you is something you really can’t fully appreciate until you’re adulting on your own.
